Choose the Best Residential General Contractor Quotes

Building a new home by yourself means that you've most likely hired a contractor to do most of the organizing of the other laborers for you.  But when all those quotes are in from the contractors that you asked for an estimate how do you choose the best contractor and house painter quotes?

There are some first steps that you might already have taken before you asked the specific contractor to submit a quote:

  • make sure the contractor is licensed with the Contractor Registration Board that is located in each state (the provinces of Canada will have their own licensing boards)
  • contact contractors who have come to you with a referral or who have several references of past clients (take the time to call these clients on the list to see how they faired with the contractor)
  • make sure that all quotes are free of cost to you

When you're giving contractors the information about your building job make sure that you don't leave out any information and that you give the same accurate information to everyone who is going to be providing you with a quote.

When all the quotes are in, look at them fairly before discarding a quote right from the start.  Read all the details that are provided with the quote so that you know exactly how that contractor based his final price to you.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have to before making a final decision.  Remember that a contractor is someone that you're going to have to live with during the building of your new home so make sure that you get along with them.
